The Modena ViaEmili@DocFest 2026 returns to Modena with two separate events: the in-person festival from November 18 to 22, 2026 and the online contest (17th edition) from October 12 to November 17, 2026. If you’re looking for practical information on how to participate, here you’ll find the key details already available and what you should check as soon as the program, venues, and admission info are published.

When does Modena ViaEmili@DocFest 2026 take place and what does it offer?

Mark two sets of dates, as the 2026 edition unfolds over several weeks and in different formats. The “live” section takes place in Modena from November 18 to 22, 2026, with screenings and in-depth sessions focused on documentary cinema and cinema of the real. The festival maintains its approach as an event that uses documentary films as a tool to interpret and narrate contemporary society, combining film screenings with opportunities for discussion and context.

If your goal is to know “what’s on” and “when to be there,” the most important thing is to immediately distinguish between the festival days and the online contest period: many searches mix the two and risk wasting your time when planning days off, trains, or car travel.

At the moment, the detailed 2026 program (screenings, panels, times, and venues) hasn’t been released in full: that’s why it’s important not to rely on dates, films, or events from previous editions. For now, the best approach is to use official channels as your guide, especially if you need to decide which days to attend or you want to combine screenings with other commitments.

To stay updated, the main sources are:

When details are released, focus especially on screening venues, timeslots, and admission procedures: these are the details that usually change and make the biggest difference for organising your trip.

In 2026, the festival also includes a competition focused on digital documentaries: the 17th edition of the Modena ViaEmili@DocFest contest takes place online from October 12 to November 17, 2026, on the event’s website. It’s a separate schedule from the in-person days, so it can be handy if you can’t make it to Modena in November or if you want to follow the festival in two ways: first online, then in person.

The key practical point here is that the contest has a clear start and end: if you’re planning when to view the content or when to check the participation rules, these dates are your reference.

For the latest contest details, the direct source is the dedicated contest 2026 page.

While the full 2026 program isn’t available yet, it helps to organize your participation “in steps”: first set your dates, then check the venues, and finally verify admission procedures (tickets, reservations, registration, or possible free access, if offered). It’s a simple breakdown, but it helps avoid the most common mistake: planning your travel around outdated schedules or venues from another edition.

Once the calendar is published, information most relevant for those coming from outside includes:

To avoid wasted time, it’s always best to check the program section on the festival website and the VisitModena destination pages, since these are where the key updates are collected before you travel.

The festival lasts five days (November 18–22, 2026): if you plan to attend several screenings or sessions, overnight stays become an organisational consideration, especially if you want to spread your attendance out over several days, rather than packing everything into a single trip. In these cases, Carpi can be a convenient base and we can host you at Hotel Touring Carpi as you plan your days in Modena.

To plan your arrival and departure well, some details matter more than others. With us, check-in is from 2:00 pm and check-out is by 12:00 pm—helpful information when you’re juggling travel and events. If you arrive early, you can leave your luggage; and if you return late, the reception is open 24 hours. In the morning, breakfast is served from 7:00–10:00 am so you can start your day with clear timing, no guesswork needed.

If you’re driving, we offer parking options: some free spaces (not bookable) and a reserved, video-monitored indoor car park (for a fee), subject to availability. For room info and contacts, your starting point is our website Hotel Touring Carpi.

For this edition, until venues and final times are announced, the most effective approach is to separate “fixed” decisions from “flexible” ones. The fixed decisions are the period, the number of days you want to dedicate to the festival, and accommodation if you’re coming from out of town. The flexible decisions are which screenings to select and what time to travel, as these depend on the official program.

Once the details are out, you can plan your days with a straightforward approach:

If you’re looking into accommodation, you can check availability for your desired nights directly on our online booking, keeping your organisation in sync with the festival dates.

To attend the Modena ViaEmili@DocFest 2026, the best step is to keep an eye on the official festival website until the program, venues, and admission procedures are published; if you’re already planning your stay between November 18 and 22, 2026, you can check availability at Hotel Touring Carpi on our online booking now.

Modena ViaEmili@DocFest 2026: dates and how to navigate the festival and online contest The Modena ViaEmili@DocFest 2026 returns to Modena with two separate events: the in-person festival from November 18 to 22, 2026 and the online contest (17th edition) from October 12 to November 17, 2026.
